Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered a theatrical result that would represent a successful lifetime run for most major films—in a single opening weekend.
Sony’s initial Sunday estimate placed the film’s North American debut at $355 million. Final figures released on Monday lifted the total to $360 million, narrowly overtaking the approximately $357 million opening of Avengers: Endgame and establishing a new North American weekend record without adjustment for ticket-price inflation.
The international figure remained approximately $572 million, taking the revised worldwide opening to about $932 million. That is the second-largest global debut on record, behind the approximately $1.22 billion worldwide opening of Avengers: Endgame.
The Run
| Metric | Sunday estimate | Monday revision | Record status |
| North American opening | $355 million | $360 million | Largest domestic opening weekend |
| International opening | $572 million | $572 million | One of the largest overseas launches |
| Worldwide opening | $927 million | Approximately $932 million | Second-largest global opening |
| Previous domestic record | Avengers: Endgame — about $357 million | Surpassed by roughly $3 million | Record broken by approximately 0.8% |
| 2026 North American box office | Year-to-date recovery already under way | More than $6.2 billion in sales, over 15% ahead of 2025 | Strengthens the theatrical recovery narrative |
The Revised Opening in Numbers
| Figure | Share or comparison | |
| North America | $360 million | 38.6% of the revised worldwide total |
| International markets | $572 million | 61.4% of the worldwide total |
| Worldwide | $932 million | Second only to Avengers: Endgame |
| Domestic advantage over Endgame | About $3 million | Approximately 0.8% higher |
| Opening locations in North America | 4,487 | About $80,000 per location on average |
The percentage shares and per-location figure are calculated from the reported box-office totals and theatre count.
Why the Monday Revision Was Important
Weekend box-office figures issued on Sundays are estimates. Studios calculate expected Sunday attendance using advance sales, Friday and Saturday behaviour, historical patterns and theatre reporting.
In this case, Sunday attendance was stronger than anticipated. The film reportedly earned about $169.8 million on Friday, $101.5 million on Saturday and $88.7 million on Sunday. The final day declined by only around 13% from Saturday, producing the $5 million upward revision that pushed the film beyond Endgame.
The revision changed the headline from “one of the largest openings” to an outright North American record.
What the Opening Says About Global Cinema
The result does not prove that every superhero film or franchise sequel will succeed. It does, however, demonstrate that worldwide audiences will still attend cinemas at exceptional scale when a release combines four elements:
| Commercial factor | Contribution |
| Recognisable global character | Spider-Man remains accessible across languages, age groups and markets. |
| Narrative continuity | The film follows the consequences of Spider-Man: No Way Home. |
| Coordinated global release | Concentrated demand was converted into one worldwide event weekend. |
| Strong theatrical urgency | Audiences perceived the film as a major shared-screen experience rather than a title to postpone until streaming. |
The domestic box office had already crossed $6.2 billion during 2026 and was running more than 15% above the comparable 2025 period. The new record therefore strengthens—not creates—the year’s broader theatrical recovery.
Estimate Versus Final Figure: An Editorial Caution
The $927 million worldwide number was widely published on Sunday because it combined the $355 million estimated domestic opening with $572 million internationally. After North American actuals rose to $360 million, industry trackers revised the combined total to approximately $932 million.
Articles continuing to use $927 million are not necessarily fabricated; they are using the earlier studio estimate. For publication after Monday’s revision, however, $932 million is the more current figure.
What to Watch Next
| Why it matters | |
| Second-weekend decline | Measures whether demand extends beyond the initial fan rush. |
| Progress towards $2 billion | Only a very small group of films has crossed that worldwide threshold. |
| International staying power | More than 60% of opening revenue came from outside North America. |
| Competition for premium screens | Large-format access can influence later-week revenue. |
| 2026 annual box office | The film could materially raise full-year theatrical totals. |
