Part of the UN System

  1. CTBTO (Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization)
    • Promotes the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (which is not yet in force) and the build-up of the verification regime to ensure it’s operational when the Treaty enters into force.
    • UN Relationship: It is closely related to the UN’s efforts to prevent nuclear testing.
    • Headquarters: Vienna, Austria
  2. IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)
    • IAEA is the world’s center for cooperation in the nuclear field, focusing on the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
    • UN Relationship: It is an independent international organization but works closely with the UN on nuclear issues.
    • Headquarters: Vienna, Austria
  3. ICC (International Criminal Court)
    • ICC investigates and, if necessary, tries individuals charged with serious international crimes, including genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression.
    • UN Relationship: It is not formally part of the UN but cooperates with it on matters related to international justice.
    • Headquarters: The Hague, Netherlands
  4. OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons)
    • OPCW implements the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) to eliminate chemical weapons worldwide.
    • UN Relationship: It cooperates with the UN on disarmament and non-proliferation efforts.

    • ITC supports the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and is a joint agency of the WTO and the UN.
    • UN Relationship: It operates under the auspices of both the WTO and the UN.
