The US Open will honour Roger Federer with a special exhibition event in New York, turning one of tennis’s most searched global sporting names back into a major tournament storyline.

Reuters reported that the event, titled “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York”, will be held on 25 August 2026 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Federer will participate alongside Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. The tribute comes as Federer, 44, prepares for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Federer’s connection with the US Open is central to the event’s global appeal. He won five consecutive US Open singles titles from 2004 to 2008 and finished his career with 20 Grand Slam singles titles, 103 ATP Tour singles titles, 310 weeks as world No. 1 and more than $130 million in prize money. His retirement in 2022 did not reduce his search relevance; instead, Federer remains one of the sport’s strongest legacy brands.

The exhibition also has commercial and cultural value for tennis. With global sport increasingly shaped by nostalgia events, legacy athletes and premium fan experiences, the US Open tribute is positioned as both a celebration and a revenue opportunity. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale from 11 June.

For global sports audiences, this is not merely a ceremonial event. It is a reminder of how retired icons continue to drive attention, sponsorship, ticket demand and digital engagement in modern sport.
