Karnataka Election – Youngest/Oldest Candidates

Youngest Candidate

Siddharth Singh, 27-year-old son of sitting MLA Anand Singh, is probably not only the youngest candidate of BJP but across all the parties contesting the poll. He has replaced his father, who is state’s tourism minister, from the Vijayanagara constituency in the Ballari district. A law graduate, he is expected to face tough completion from Congress’ HR Gaviappa. Anand Singh won the constituency four times in a row. Anand Singh was one of the Congress defectors in 2019 that led to the fall of the Congress-JDS government.

Oldest Candidate

Shamanur Shivashankarappa, at 92, is possibly the oldest candidate in the election. He is contesting on a Congress ticket from Davangere South Assembly constituency. An industrialist-turned politician, he is also Karnataka’s oldest sitting legislature at the moment. One of the richest candidates, with Rs 292 crore, he heads the Bapuji Group of Institutions.
