1922-23 – top 1% in the country accounted for 13% of the national income.

1939-40 – their share rose to 20.7%.
1949-50 – the share decreased to 10.3%.
1982-82 – consistent decrease saw it reaching at the level of 6.2% of the total national income.
2013-14 – consistent increase post economic liberalization, reached at 21.7%, the highest level since 1992, when India started income tax.
