Lithium Reserves In India
- 5.9 million tons (J&K) + 1600 tons (Karnataka)
- based on preliminary exploration result of the Geological Survey of India (GSI)
- GSI’S initial findings makes India the 7th largest country in lithium reserves
- But it is not commercially viable – further exploration and mapping needed
- Will take some years before the country reach to a final figure of commercially available lithium from its resources
- Till them, India will be dependent on external resources for lithium availability in the country
