Lithium Reserves In India

  • 5.9 million tons (J&K) + 1600 tons (Karnataka)
  • based on preliminary exploration result of the Geological Survey of India (GSI)
  • GSI’S initial findings makes India the 7th largest country in lithium reserves
  • But it is not commercially viable – further exploration and mapping needed
  • Will take some years before the country reach to a final figure of commercially available lithium from its resources
  • Till them, India will be dependent on external resources for lithium availability in the country
